Wish Clothing Has Arrived!

We are thrilled that the Wish Doll Company managed to get a selection of their new clothing collection to us prior to the Holidays.  We love these outfits and have created a special Wish Page on our website so you can find all of the new Wish Doll Company offerings in one place.  We’d love to hear your feedback and get some customer reviews in place, so please let us know what you think!

Games For Your American Girl

American Girl Games

We have games! Just click on the “Games” tab above.

I don’t know about you but I get a little nervous when our American Girl is surfing the web. Yes we have added all of the parental controls and I do tend to hover - but you just never know. I am pleased to announce that we have now added games to Raising American Girls. You can be absolutely sure that if your daughter has an itch to play some video games for a half hour you can send her to Raising American Girls and all of our games will be safe and appropriate. How do I know? Because I have played every game myself before adding it. This is a huge sacrifice on my part because I am very bad at video games and I have to subject myself to Emily’s secret giggles as she watches me play.

I’d like to hear your rules on video games. We have a “no game console” policy in our house. Emily is only allowed games on her computer and internet time. All computer time is limited to 45 minutes a few times a week. Do you have rules in your house?

Family History in the Making.

The US is a country that is proud to be made up of folks from all sorts of countries around the world.  But most of us don’t know too much about our family history.  Here’s a fun way for the kids to find out more.  The Family Tree Kids site has all sorts of webtools to find out more if you’re from a long line of enchanted princesses or maybe a famous noble ancestry.

Interesting Holiday Recipie………

With the holiday season coming upon us all thick and fast, a great way to get the kids involved in the kitchen is to come up with some kid friendly, unusual recipes.  Here is one that certainly falls into that category - Candied Sweet Potatoes.  I’m really not too sure about this one and we haven’t tried it here so far, so can’t vouch for its flavor or suitability.  But the whole idea of candy combined with potatoes is enough to give it a go - please let me know if you make it….and if it is a success.

Here’s what you need:

3 sweet potatoes (large)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
6 teaspoons brown sugar
some small marshmallows
salt and butter to taste

Wash sweet potatoes and pat dry. Slice through the middle (longways), then rub the sweet potato with oil. Lay the sweet potatoes in a casserole dish, sliced side up.

Pre-heat the oven to 350F degrees (180C degrees) and bake for 40 minutes until firm but not completely baked. Top with a little butter, brown sugar, the marshmallows, and salt to taste. Then bake for another 20 minutes.

Are You Brave Enough For Goop?

Goop

I found this recipe on www.unplugyourkids.com.  It’s not your typical kid recipe - you can’t eat the results.  The end product is that fabulous and disgusting goop stuff that you get out of the vending machines sometimes in that little plastic egg.  Emily loves this stuff and would think that making it was absolutely fantastic.  Unfortunately I don’t think I am brave enough to give it a go.  I can’t get it out of my head that my kitchen would never recover from the mess.  Maybe I am wrong and perhaps I shouldn’t worry about mess at the expense of my daughter’s pleasure but… why don’t one of you give it a try and then let me know how it goes.  I never was the adventurous one :-)

Free Drawing Lessons

One of the best collection I have is a folder full of drawings done by my now 10 year old daughter, Emily.  They may not look like masterpieces to anyone else but I assure you they are to me.  They will always serve as a reminder of the innocence of young children, how creative your child can be and, maybe, bring back a special memory of a special moment in growing up.

Anyway, here’s an idea of how to make those squiggly lines and blotchy colors form into a little more shape.  This DrawBook site helps even the youngest of budding artists take shape by providing all sorts of tips on drawing.  They includes easy techniques to use, templates to draw against and provide lots of examples to follow.  Give it a try.

Present time is coming…

Its not that time of year quite yet but the holiday season in on its way and gift selection is coming more to mind.  We always think that books make terrific gifts for kids.  Here is a idea for some great reading material for pre-schoolers.  It’s a list of The All-Time Best Books for Preschoolers
